Tune of Those were the days
Once upon a time we had a country
Where we thought that all dreams would come true
Remember how we whiled away the decades
And bragged about the great things we could do
Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end
We'd shop and spend forever and a day
We'd build the life we choose
We'd fight and never lose
For we were proud and sure to have our way
As the busy years went rushing by us
We lost our starry notions on the way
If we meet at food stores or the gas pump
You see us wince at prices we can't pay
Where are those days my friend?
we thought they'd never end
Our stocks would rise forever and a day
We'd fight the wars we choose
We'd win and never lose
For we were proud and sure to have our way
Last two weeks I slept at homeless shelters
Nothing seemed the way it used to be
Inside the door I saw a strange reflection
Is that tattered person really me?
Here the faces looked oh-so-familiar
Saw old friends and heard them call my name
They said we're just beginning to get wiser
Dreams we got to dream can't be the same.
Where are those days my friend?
We thought they'd never end
We'd keep our wealth forever and a day
We'd have the world we choose
Just take and never lose
And now we need to find another way!!
